Jerry Springer as Bulfinch: The Sestina won the Anne Marx Sestina Award for 2006.

Thetis' Daughter was nominated for the 2006 Pushcart Prize*. The poem also won The Anita Marie Bogs Memorial Fund Prize for poetry (any topic, any form) at the National League of American Pen Women convention.

The Berlin Pietá: The Soldier's Mother Finds Him on the Battlefield, V-E Day, 1945 won its category in the National League of American Pen Women Biennial National Competition in 2000.

Sestina: Venus in Versace won the 2003 National Federation of Press Women prize for Creative Verse as part of the book Starving for the Marvelous. The judge commented specifically that she "had never seen anything like this, with the use of the sudden short line. Very effective."

The Question of Easter Island (Rapa Nui) won the Delaware Press Association Award in 2001. (Published in Bound #5 and the e-zine The Poetry Repair Shop in 2001.

In 2001, Jean was nominated by The American Association of University Women, The National League of American Pen Women, and The Delaware Press Association for the position of Delaware's Poet Laureate. Although she did not get the appointment, the nomination is a high point in her life.

In 2003, the Delaware Humanities Forum selected Jean as one of their speakers for the following two years. Topic: poetry.
